Wellington by Northern Explorer – The Train Journey
The biggest highlights of your Wellington by Northern Explorer City Break will be the train journey.
Climbing aboard the Northern Explorer in Auckland or Hamilton, your Wellington break will start in relaxing style as you ease back in your reclined seat and enjoy the views through your panoramic window.
Along the way, you’ll see hobbits and orcs and wizards – well, maybe, on a clear day. But this is Middle Earth, and highlights do include the conical peak of the volcano Ngauruhoe, which featured as Mount Doom in LOTR. And the rural scenery of rolling hills, paddocks, and pastures is also reminiscent of the Shire.
Soaring viaducts and the historical Raurimu Spiral are also highlights of this day long adventure through the heart of the North Island.
On your journey to Wellington by Northern Explorer, you will be booked in Scenic Class where you will enjoy spacious reclined seats with generous amounts of legroom and comfort, panoramic windows, glass shelves and skylights. And to heighten your comfort, state-of-the-art airbag suspension has been used to guarantee a smooth ride across our rugged New Zealand terrain.
While onboard, you might like a stroll to the Northern Explorer Scenic Cafe carriage where you’ll find a great selection of hot and cold snacks, drinks and ice creams. Indulge in a freshly brewed specialty tea or barista coffee married with a sumptuous cake? Or perhaps toast your special journey with a bottle of bubbles or craft beer?
The open-air viewing carriage is also great place to get some fresh air and enjoy the great outdoors while on the move. Capture the magical views on camera and let your short break begin!
